Easter is a week away, and whether you celebrate it or not everyone loves the candy that is associated with it. I have fond memories of waking up on Easter Sunday is pretty new dresses and hats then looking down and our stained multi-colored hands from dying eggs.

Nestle, the maker of Wonka has several different varieties of candies to fill those baskets and eggs with. Our family was lucky enough to get to sample a few different varieties and my favorite is the Scrumdiddlyumptious bars. Held each year in August, the North American Final Meet hosts 450 outstanding young participants in a fun and exciting, all-expenses paid weekend trip to Hershey. During the weekend, participants tour the world’s largest chocolate factory and visit Hersheypark amusement park, among other exciting activities.

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis and Olympic decathlon legend Rafer Johnson will again return as HERSHEY’s Track & Field Games ambassadors in 2011.

To further encourage physical activity among kids and families, Hershey is teaming up with the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program to collect old, worn-out athletic shoes to be recycled into Nike Grind, a material used in creating athletic and playground surfaces, as well as select Nike products. Program participants will be invited to bring used athletic shoes to state and provincial meets, which will then be recycled into Nike Grind. A HERSHEY’s Track & Field Games playground will be awarded to a participating local community as part of the program’s work with Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program. Since its inception in the early 1990’s, Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program has recycled more than 25 million pairs of athletic shoes into Nike Grind.

First off I was skeptical about something you added at the beginning of your wash cycle and mixed it with your clothing vs adding it in the rinse cycle. But my opinion quickly changed.

My favorite recipe for the holidays is spritz cookies. Mix together 2 1/4 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder. Cut in 1 cup butter - mix up well. Add 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Put through cookie press onto ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate with colored sugars - bake 375 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes and enjoy!!

My Ultimate Family Vacation

Each year with money saved through being frugal I take the girls on a family vacation. It is one of the ways we make memories. Sometimes we drive, sometimes we fly, other times we cruise.

I think the best vacation would be having my three girls, plus all of our friends, and heading to a cabin in the mountains someplace. I would love it if there was snow, but not so cold that we could not enjoy ourselves. All electronic devices would be left at home and we would all have to communicate with real words, not texts (gasp). I really enjoy the outdoors more than anything and like to show my kids the beauty the world has to offer.

We try and make our vacations more about spending quality time with each other vs spending quantities of money on stuff. There are so many things do see and do that really don't cost a lot of money. That is where the memories are made.

I went and took advantage of the King Soopers deals yesterday. Unfortunately, our store wasn't offering a special on the Nature Valley Granola bars, but I did pretty well on what I did buy:

4 Progresso Soups at $1.19 x 4 = $4.76- 2 coupons for .50/2 cans which KS doubled to be $1.00 (x2)= $2.76 total

3 Cheerios $1.48 x 3 = $4.44 - 3 coupons for $1/1 cheerios = $1.44

1 Cheetos $1.49 - .50/1 coupon which King Soopers Doubled = .49

So, for 8 items I spent $4.69, which comes out to .59 each

This was a pretty good shopping trip for me, as my total bill came to $18 after sales and coupons, and I saved over $55. I ended up saving 77% off of my order total.

I love to use bisquik to make Blueberry Pancakes and I serve them for Breakfast or Dinner.

I like to use the Yoplait yogurts to make smoothies for myself and the children.Put one cup strawberries in blender 3 bananas cut up, add one 16 oz. cup of milk.One cup of yogurt. Make great smoothies.
Bisquick Coffee Cake
So, here’s how to make the deliciously famous Bisquick coffee cake. You’ll be amazed at how simple this recipe is and how fast you can whip one up.

First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Get your round, 9 x 1 ½ inch pan ready by greasing it. Next, make your Streusel topping and set it aside:

•1/3 cup Bisquick
•1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
•1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (I like to add a bit more since I love cinnamon!)
•2 tablespoons of margarine or butter
Mix the first three ingredients together. Then cut in the margarine with a fork or pastry blender until the mixture is crumbly.

For the batter you’ll need:

•2 cups of Bisquick
•2 tablespoons of sugar
•2/3 cup of milk
•1 egg
Mix all the batter ingredients together and spread in your prepared pan. Now sprinkle that with the Streusel topping. If you’d like, you can take a butter knife and zig-zag it through the topping for a marbled effect.

Pop it in the oven and bake it for 18 to 22 minutes. It should look golden brown on top when it’s done. Let it cool for just a few minutes so it will come out of the pan nicely, but to experience this coffee cake at it’s best, it should really be served warm

Being a part of my family was always a funny experience. It was Mother's Day and daddy was rounding the 4 of us up to make breakfast for mom. When I was asked to do a review and giveaway on the new Nestle Cherry Raisinets I jumped at the offer. For those who don't know, cherries are my favorite fruit and of course chocolate is pretty high on my "things I love" list. It seems like everything goes better with chocolate.

Cherry Raisinets contain whole cherries from a growing region in Michigan. They are then covered in delicious Nestle chocolate. I am not big on letting my kids have candy all the time, but with 1/2 serving of real fruit in each 1/4 cup of Cherry Raisinets, this can be a very good thing. I was so glad the girls and I had a chance to stay at and review the Country Inns & Suites 1, 2, Freee! promotion earlier this month. Even though we didn't travel far it was nice to get away and take a break from everyday life for three nights.

I know with the economy many families are putting vacations on the back burner, but with special promotions like the 1, 2, Freee! program you don't have to skip out on the family fun. Even if you opt to stay at a location close to you, by getting the third night FREE you have extra money for some local entertainment or gas money for your road trip.

One of the features we loved the best was the indoor pool. Our neighborhood does not have a pool and even if it did, it will be months before it is open. With the indoor pool the girls didn't have to worry about the frigid outdoor temperatures and could just hang out and have fun.

We also enjoyed the breakfast that is included with your stay at Country Inns & Suites. That can be a real budget breaker when on vacation and you have to eat out all the time costing anywhere from $4 per person on up. We all had full, hearty breakfasts each morning at no additional cost. And when we did go out for lunch or dinner we could bring leftovers back to the room and put them in the fridge and warm them up in the microwave that is included in all the rooms.

Vacation Update

We are wrapping up the end of our first full day at Country Inns & Suites with their “1,2, Freee!” promotion.

The day started out with a huge choice for a hot or cold breakfast. I opted for the egg and sausage bagel with yogurt while the kids had cereal with fresh fruit, warm biscuits with jam and fresh baked muffins.

Our hotel is just two exits from the Tanger Outlet mall in San Marcos so of course we had to spend the bulk of the day there. A word of advice, if you are going to spend at least $125 there between any of the shops you are better off buying gift cards, because if you do you will get a $10 bonus for each $125 you buy. You will have the extra money to spend anyway by getting your third night free at Country Inns.

One of the nice things about our Country Inns & Suites is that is has an indoor pool. The girls are spending tons of time there since it is still too cold to swim at home.

I think tomorrow we will go to either Wonder World or Sea World. Sea World San Antonio has a promotion where if you buy a one day pass you can go back the rest of the year at no additional charge. That is a huge savings off of their normal annual pass.

Chocolate Cheerios Review and Giveaway

I will be the first to admit when I was offered to do a review and giveaway on the new Chocolate Cheerios I didn’t hesitate. Come on…Chocolate? Hello of course!

The bad thing is my box, with everything pictured above, arrived on my front porch the day I was leaving to go out of town. When I got back into town 3 days later I found the empty Chocolate Cheerios box in the trash. I didn’t even get one bowl!

Obviously the kids all liked it. I did end up buying another box so that I could get a taste of them though and I really loved them. They are not too sticky sweet for my taste. There is even a great recipe using the Chocolate Cheerios and my favorite Nutella that I will be making:

Chocolate Hazelnut Marshmallow Balls
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Start to Finish: 15 Minutes

1/2 cup hazelnut spread with cocoa
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
14 large marshmallows
Toothpicks
3 cups Chocolate Cheerios® cereal
Round wooden sticks with one pointed end or craft sticks
(flat wooden sticks with round ends)

In medium microwavable bowl, microwave hazelnut spread and chocolate chips on high 30 seconds; stir until smooth. Place cereal in shallow dish.
Insert toothpick into marshmallow; dip in chocolate mixture. Roll in cereal to coat completely. Place on large plate; remove toothpick. Repeat with remaining marshmallows. If desired, insert round wooden sticks into each for pops.
Refrigerate 30 minutes or until chocolate is set.

The 5 Second Rule

I am sure you have all heard of the 5 Second Rule. You know…the rule where when you are holding something and are about ready to take a bite then the earth rotates just so and it causes you to drop if from your hands onto the floor…but within 5 seconds you can pick it up and blow it off and still eat it, fuzz and all, and the world will never know…that rule.

Apparently there have been studies on the 5 second rule and maybe it is not such a great rule. Germs can instantly attach to items in under 5 seconds. I made some pies for my husband to take to his office and he cut and tasted them and they did not have any sugar. I had forgotten to put in the sugar. They were terrible so he just removed them from the table and never told anyone but me about it. I was so glad he was the taster and not others in his office. They think I am a fanstastic cook! Michael Buble Crazy Love

I will be honest, when I received a copy of Michael Buble’s newest release, Crazy Love, I had no idea who he was. My oldest daughter even asked me why I had it since she knew I had no clue who he was.

Let me tell you, after listening to this CD over and over and over and over and…well you get it, I have decided that if they make a movie of my life that Crazy Love will be the soundtrack to it. This is one of these CD’s you can play all day long and never get tired of it.

Even his first single, Haven’t Met You Yet, goes along with my lifestyle, lol. Take a look and see!

Mystic Wonders Wonder Ball Review and Giveaway

Back in August I was set a Complete Laundry System from Mystic Wonders Inc. It comes with a Wonder Ball for the washing machine and two Wonder Dryer Balls for the dryer.

I wanted to use the Complete Laundry System for awhile before posting it. First off let me say I was skeptical that this would be all I needed to do my laundry, no detergent, no dryer sheets no anything.

Right off I could tell I liked the dryer balls. The little nubs on them keep the clothes separated and redistribute the heat cutting down on drying time. I could tell a difference in my drying time from the very first load.

The washing ball took me a little longer to like. First off it says you don’t need ANY detergent with it, which kind of scared me. I do use detergent with mine but only use about 1/5 what I normally would. This saves me a ton of money right there. After about 6 weeks using it, once the old detergents were out of the clothing, I could tell a huge difference in the softness of the clothing.

The dryer balls are engineered to last forever where the washer ball needs to be replaced/recharged every 3 years or 2000 washes. Can you imagine how much money this will save you?
